heterochromatin, spreading, S. pombe
Originally from the Bay Area, Rachel ran away to the Midwest to brave the snow and study biology at Washington University in St. Louis. But alas the cold was too much and she came running right back to the best coast for graduate school after a brief stint getting paid to swing axes and live in a tent. Currently, she is working on characterizing the properties that underlie the process of heterochromatin spreading in vivo and developing a fluorescence based spreading sensor. In her spare time, Rachel enjoys drinking fancy coffee, working out, and baking vegan cookies.
