Juntaro is a Board Certified Gastroenterologist. He received M.D. from Keio University School of Medicine, Tokyo in 2005. After the medical internship, he joined the lab of Dr. Hidekazu Suzuki to study the carcinogenic process in the esophagus and the stomach, especially the involvement of microRNA dysregulation. He also learned clinical statistics. He earned his Ph.D. in Medical Science from Keio University School of Medicine in 2013. After 2-year clinical work as a gastroenterologist, he joined the lab of Dr. Takahiro Ochiya as a leading scientist of the Japanese multi-center national project for comprehensive circulating microRNA profiling of 13 types of solid cancers at the National Cancer Center Research Institute, Tokyo, and contributed to the identification of serum microRNA biomarkers for early-stage cancer detection using molecular biology skills and bioinformatics. To further illustrate the potential functionalities of extracellular RNAs, he joined the McManus lab in 2019. His current focus is developing in vivo models to analyze intercellular RNA delivery.
