Hi, I am Jana and I am a Specialist Scientist at the McManus lab. I earned my BS in Genetics and genomics at UC Davis. I am interested in learning how various computational and high-throughput genomics approaches can help us answer biomedical questions.
In the McManus Lab I have the opportunity to dive deeper into the world of high-throughput CRISPR experiments that use complex libraries, which target multiple genes at once, and use deep sequencing analysis to derive functional insights. Together with other lab members, I am working on the Illuminating the Druggable Genome (IDG) initiative, a project focused on better understanding understudied genes that are potential drug targets. In the Illuminating the Druggable Genome program, we deploy CRISPR and various other functional genomics technologies to better understand the genes of interest. Working on diverse projects with diverse groups have given me the opportunity to experience research beyond genomics, including working on collaborative efforts, and involvement in cutting-edge science.
To further develop my career, I plan to enroll in a graduate program to learn more about the practical and theoretical application of computer science in biomedical research. Additionally, I am interested in developing computational approaches and technologies that will be accessible to developing countries and to help them accelerate their biological research and medical needs.
In my free time I like to explore coffee, look for the peachiest floral roast, and pull a perfect shot of espresso ☕️
