Hi, I'm Elisa Ma and I'm excited to be back at the McManus Lab this summer. We are working on a cDNA library of recombinant expression vectors, focused on membrane-surface proteins.
I plan on pursuing biomedical engineering/molecular biology, but I am not totally set on a major yet. I've competed twice in the UC Berkeley BioEHSC, looking at theoretical solutions to Alzheimer's and Diabetic Neuropathy through siRNA and iPSCs. I've also taken my school's Scientific Research Methods in Drosophila melanogaster, where I looked at a lot of flies, extracted their DNA, and dissected their brains.
I will lead the speech and debate team at my high school next year, while also competing in 4 varsity speech/debate events (Congress, Extemp, Parli, Policy). For a little more fun, I paddle and will be representing Team USA at the 17th International Dragon Boat Federation's World Championships this July.
