Stephen Floor seeks to understand how properties of RNA control gene expression. His lab studies gene regulation involving RNA in human cells and how it is altered in cancers and developmental disorders. His work has led to a model of how alterations to RNA chaperones promote the brain tumor medulloblastoma, and identified RNA-based regulation of gene expression during human neuronal differentiation. He is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cell and Tissue Biology at the University of California, San Francisco. Previously, he was a postdoctoral fellow in Jennifer Doudna’s lab at UC Berkeley after completing a Ph.D. in Biophysics with John Gross at UCSF and degrees in Physics and Computer Science at the University of Kansas.
