I grew up in Hollywood, CA born from Mexican immigrant parents. For my undergraduate education, I studied at UCLA and majored in microbiology. One of my interests had always been figuring out how microorganisms are able to cause disease in the human body, which possess a sophisticated defense arsenal called the immune system. I pursued my interested at UC Berkeley, where I sought a Ph.D. degree in Infectious Disease studying posttranscriptional mRNA regulation during herpesvirus infection.
In my spare time, I enjoy helping my wife, Debbie, design and make nerdy science tshirts: http://screenology.net/. If you come by my house any weekend, we will probably be grilling out, drinking wine and screen-printing new shirt designs.
