As a current student in San Francisco, my interest in biology was planted since my first biology course. Wanting to dig deeper into the intricacies of this field, I completed a Drosophila melanogaster genetics research course focused on creating and stabilizing a transgenic flyline as well as independent research on specific genes. In collaboration with my team, we researched the Dad (Daughters against dpp) and human homologs SMAD6 and SMAD7. I practiced skills unique to Drosophila research (e.g., larval brain dissections, fly vial maintenance) in addition to general laboratory methods (e.g., iPCR, PCR, DNA purification). I am open to all specialties of biomolecular research, but seek to learn more about immunological processes. To support my mental well-being and contentment, I enjoy crocheting, being in nature, and spending time with loved ones.
