I have always been fascinated by pathogens, viruses in particular, and their arms race with the host immune system. In my professional career I have studied these interactions at the molecular level, initially with a strong focus on the pathogens (BSc and MSc), which later shifted towards studying innate immunity and RNAi in mammals (PhD). Over the last years I managed to describe a novel platform for interplay between RNA silencing and innate immunity pathways upon long dsRNA (viral mimic) introduction in mammalian cells. Furthermore, by classical forward genetic screening I could identify the proteins essential for efficient long dsRNA uptake and sensing by both pathways.
